Brake discs are key components in automotive braking systems, providing the friction needed to slow down or stop a vehicle during rotation. The customer is a well-known automotive parts manufacturer. To expand production capacity, the company built a new plant and added an automated unattended machining line. Brake discs are typically delivered in bins positioned by forklifts. Inside the bins, the parts are stacked and overlapped in a random arrangement, and certain part poses may also make picking more difficult.
The ALSONTECH 3D vision system scans and analyzes the brake discs, guiding the robot to pick and load parts layer by layer with an optimized strategy. The vision software can also perform collision avoidance checks to ensure safe picking of lower-layer and edge parts.
- Combined with robots, the 3D vision system reduces heavy manual handling, and only 1–2 maintenance operators are needed for normal line operation. - Handles random incoming parts and reduces the complexity of pre-sorting. - Supports fast changeover to different brake disc types without additional hardware, reducing investment cost and improving equipment utilization.
