Project Background:

The customer is an automotive parts manufacturer. A large number of stamped parts in different sizes are transferred in plastic totes during production. By introducing a 3D vision system, the customer accurately locates stacked totes and guides robots to grip and depalletize them.

Customer Benefits:

- A single workstation supports multiple tote sizes and stack patterns, with no additional hardware required for new materials. - The 3D vision system can accurately identify worn or deformed totes caused by long-term use and still guide robotic depalletizing based on current conditions, improving tote utilization.

3D Vision Solution:

- The totes are open-top and are typically handled with clamp grippers. Because the gripper has limited flexibility, high positioning accuracy is required. AT-S1000-06A-S3-L provides high positioning accuracy for precise edge extraction and gripper placement, reducing missed and incorrect picks. - The 3D camera provides a large field of view and can cover multi-layer, large-size tote stacks in a single scan. - The 3D vision system determines a suitable depalletizing sequence according to the tote stack pattern and supports common layouts such as block and hollow-square patterns. - Plastic surfaces have some reflectivity, and the laser imaging solution provides reliable imaging. Parts inside the totes do not affect depalletizing accuracy.
